Read below to learn more about this exciting new technology and how it can help you get rid of nail fungus.

What is Nail Fungus?

Nail fungus, also known as onychomycosis, is a common type of fungal infection that causes your nail to discolor and thicken. The nail may also grow brittle and crumble at the edges. Nail fungus usually isn’t painful, but you may experience pain if the infection worsens. It can affect fingernails, but it's more common in toenails.

Fungus of the nails is a common problem that can affect people of all ages, although it most commonly affects older people. Previously, treatment options were limited: topical medications were ineffective, and oral tablets could cause organ damage and had potential side effects with other medications. Today, laser treatment is a common way to treat this infection.

If your condition is mild and not bothering you, you may not need treatment. But if your nail fungus is painful and the nail becomes increasingly discolored, thickened or deformed, you may want to see a physician. Also, see a doctor if you have diabetes and think you're developing nail fungus. Left untreated, serious nail fungus can spread and worsen and become portals for more severe bacterial infections.

What is GenesisPlus?

The GenesisPlus is an FDA-approved laser system designed to provide a fast and effective solution for a wide range of podiatric conditions, including onychomycosis, warts and scars. Its state-of-the-art design significantly improves the odds for those trying to get rid of their nail fungus without drugs or more invasive therapies. Research shows that GenesisPlus laser treatment for nail fungus is 85% effective in eliminating the infection that causes onychomycosis, a significant cure rate compared to other treatments.

How Does GenesisPlus work?

The GenesisPlus laser system uses a pulsed laser with a wavelength of 1064nm. In this way, the laser light passes through the damaged and thickened nail and directly targets the fungi living underneath. The laser light is absorbed by the fungi, which causes it to heat, and this heat kills the fungal organism. This process takes place without damaging your skin, and without any side effects of any kind. It is an extremely safe treatment method.

What to Expect from the GenesisPlus Laser Treatment

The standard treatment course requires three separate sessions, spaced anywhere from two weeks to one month apart. Few people may require one or two extra sessions to achieve maximum results.

The procedure itself is painless and usually takes around 20 minutes (though that depends on how many nails require treatment). During treatment, you may feel a mild warming sensation, but there should be no discomfort. Most patients show some improvement after one treatment, but the required number of treatments will vary depending on the severity of the infection.

Although laser treatment is an effective way to kill the fungi causing the damage, it will still take time (up to 12 months) for the abnormal portions of the nail to be replaced by healthy, clear nail growth.

Nail fungi are highly durable and will fight to the end. However, treatment using the GenesisPlus laser has a high success rate. Get in touch with us to learn more!
